Business at the Arts Museum and How It Came To Be
At age five, I had felt my heart leaping each time I see Rachel. She was the only child of Mr and Mrs Smith; our next door neighbors. However, I don’t know if she knew about this too. But she smiles every time her eyes meet mine.
Two years later
By now, I was seven, my father passed away. My life became really unbearable. Mum will have to cater for everything and pay the bills too. Just four months after the demise of my dad, mum couldn’t bear the weight of having to pay all the bills. So, with that said; we had to move to a low-cost housing estate society. Though the bills were cheaper compared to where we were residing. Although life actually began to suck real bad.
Anyhow, on the day we were supposed to move our things. And relocate to our new apartment; which was 5 hours away from my childhood crush, Rachael. Rachael rushed out with a picture of hers. These were her words ‘I will miss you cute friend’. Suddenly, she hugged me as though her life depended on it. As we drove in dad’s very old-schooled-noise-making vehicle; her voice and her words were like music that replayed over and over in my head. Though I was young, but I can tell I have a feeling for Rachel.
Nonetheless, my new room was smaller than the former. But on the other hand, I was good with it. Life has to go on I muttered and tears found its way out of my eyes. Even at 7, I could understand things as an adult would.
My first arts museum business
Mum allowed me to keep some pictures of dad. Considering I was his favorite amongst the 3 children, mum had for him. My room was neatly arranged and pictures nicely placed. With dad gone and Rachel very far from me, I appreciated everything that reminds of them. Rachel’s picture was placed close to my bed; and dad’s stuff was almost everywhere.
After all, each time a relative or a friend comes to say hi to the family; all routes led to my room, to take a view at dad’s pictures. Years later, I picked up an interest in photography. I loved nature so much that I felt I might be cheating on nature if the essence of keeping and appreciating nature is not propagated by me.
I took shot almost everything that came my way
From butterflies to crickets, humans, everything. Therefore, I will often save a few bucks from the allowance, mum gives to us. Why would I do this? To visit neighboring cities and towns. Go for sight-seeing and take shots of persons seated in the park, others waiting at bus stations. At the end of the day, I will return home fulfilled. Although, to few friends, it was crazy. Yet, mum never saw as being crazy. She supported me all the way.
At 18 years old, you would need to meander your way through, in my room. I had pictures scattered everywhere. Nonetheless, mum would sometimes take out time to arrange my very messy room. Six months after my 18th birthday, I started a class in fine arts for business. Hence, I was learning how to draw. As well as learning how to understand the arts museum behind the arts business. Sometimes, I wished I could take pictures of my imaginations. Be that as it may, this sole reason made more interested in learning how to draw. Since I would be able to express my imaginations, by expressing them with a pencil.
The need for a business in arts
Being an ardent reader of a particular e-zine, I receive weekly newsletters delivered to my mailbox. On the 19th of October 2005, I received a weekly mail from this online magazine. Then I saw an advert. An open contest for fine arts. My heart skipped a beat. Suddenly I could hear my destiny calling. Unfortunately, applying for the contest wasn’t free.
With that said, I started applying for jobs. One week later, a particular travel blogger called in. They asked if I could assist in by taking pictures of some certain places. As well as getting paid. I didn’t need to sleep over it. ‘Yes!’ I responded. Years ago, I did this for fun. But now, I am paid to get it done.
Made a few bucks from the shots I took. Two weeks after I had picked up the part time job, I had gathered enough to apply for the competition.
I answered to destiny’s call
It was a 3-day event. We were to choose from three categories of arts for the business. I chose photography and drawing. Of course. However, I never felt envious of any talent. Nevertheless, I was amazed and happy for all of us that was present. Although at the end of the competition, I became the overall winner of the photography category.
After all, I was presented with the award. I dedicated it to my mum; who never gave to me or called me crazy. To Rachael and my late dad for making me love photography. This is because of the beautiful memory’s pictures bring. I signed a deal with a multinational business of arts; that would promote my works for 5 years. As well as the monetary benefits too. Aside from having a wonderful arts museum with fascinating music playing. Also, various collections from all over the world. I get paid for doing what I love to do.
